Route 66, renamed Will Rogers Highway in Afton.
This marker is located at the north entrance to Afton. It was here, on June 26, 1952, that Route 66 was renamed the Will Rogers Highway for the Warner Bros. national promotion of the film The Story of Will Rogers. The inscription reads: "Will Rogers, world traveler, good neighbor. This main street of America, Highway 66, was the first road he traveled in a career that took him directly to the hearts of his countrymen."
