Claremore is the town where Will Rogers (1879-1935), a great actor of the 1930s, born in Oologah a few miles away, is buried. Considered one of the great figures of Route 66, the road was also named after him (The Will Rogers Highway) and a plaque dedicated to his memory is located at the end of the route, in Santa Monica. This was the official end of Route 66 from 1952 to 2009. To celebrate his memory, many events are organized in the city and at the Will Rogers Memorial Museum the first weekend of November.
