Capitol of 47 meters and surmounted by a bronze statue of a Native American that houses the office of the governor
The Capitol dates back to 1917, seven years after the capital moved from Guthrie to Oklahoma City. Its dome, 47 meters high, is topped by a bronze statue of a Native American. The west wing houses the House of Representatives, and the east wing the Senate. The building houses numerous offices as well as a museum, cafeteria and barber shop. On the north side of the complex is the Oklahoma Veterans Memorial. Two oil derricks and a few oil tanks are reminders that the area became an important mining site in the early 20th century.
