CATHEDRAL BASILICA OF SAINT FRANCIS OF ASSISI
This cathedral was built by the French architect Antoine Mouly under the direction of Archbishop Jean-Baptiste Lamy
Built on the site of a church destroyed during the Pueblo Revolt of 1680, the Cathedral of St. Francis of Assisi was constructed between 1869 and 1886. The French architect Antoine Mouly built it under the direction of Archbishop Jean-Baptiste Lamy, the first archbishop of Santa Fe. Although the neo-Romanesque style of the building contrasts with that of the surrounding buildings, it fits in perfectly. Pope Benedict XVI elevated the cathedral to the rank of basilica in 2005.

L'intérieur est sans âme mais on ne peut pas manquer les exceptionnels fonds baptismaux qui occupent le milieu de la nef ( voir photo 2)
