A huge plateau forming a dozen hairpins on the Santa Fe hillside.
In 1926, Route 66 was a patchwork of paved roads, farm roads and old Indian trails. At the level of Bajada Hill, southwest of Santa Fe, the immense plateau suddenly gives way in a brutal descent, drawing a dozen hairpins on the hillside. If you are in an all-terrain vehicle, have good walking shoes, and know the necessary authorizations to explore the area (on foot as well as by vehicle), it is however possible to go for a walk.
