A renowned hot air balloon festival held north of the city, with over 500 balloons from around the world.

This week-long festival brings together hundreds of hot air balloons that take to the skies over Albuquerque and the Rio Grande. Most of them take off early in the morning (between 5:45 and 7:00 am) or in the late afternoon/early evening (between 5:00 and 8:00 pm), so it is necessary to get up at dawn to see them take off. It is however easy to observe their multicolored ballet during the day, and to attend the festivities and workshops organized on the ground.
