More than 20,000 petroglyphs left by different Indian peoples are found at the foot of the volcanic escarpment
At the foot of this volcanic escarpment a few miles west of Albuquerque, a succession of different indigenous peoples have left more than 20,000 petroglyphs engraved in basalt. Although most of these inscriptions were executed after the 14th century, some are much older. These stylized drawings are sometimes recognizable (animals, men, marks, crosses...) but their interpretation differs from one tribe to another.
