EL GARCES HOTEL
A superb building occupied by Amtrak, listed on the National Register of Historic Places in Needles.
Built in 1908, El Garces closed as the Harvey House in 1949, before being used as offices for the Santa Fe Railroad until 1988. Abandoned at that time, El Garces was threatened with destruction until a local group formed in 1993, aided in its preservation efforts by the city in 1999. Renovated over many years, it is now a beautiful building occupied by Amtrak and has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places. A hotel and restaurant project is still on the agenda.
