Building where taxes were collected on goods imported by cargo from all over the world to Salem.
Built in 1819 by the customs services, the building is largely inspired by European architecture and housed the federal services between 1819 and 1937. It was here that taxes were collected on goods imported by cargo from all over the world. Now owned by the National Park Services, the house is open to the public. Free guided tours are provided by the Maritime National Park Rangers. For schedules, check the Visitor Center at 2 New Liberty Street.
