The Salem Town Hall was built in 1836 by architect Richard Bond and has been expanded in 1876, 1979 and most recently in 2012. Its latest renovation, completed in 2013, cost nearly $2 million. The Greek Revival style building has been a listed building since 1973. City Hall has been the epicentre of life in Salem since the early 19th century. On the second floor of the building are the offices of the city council, which first met there in 1838.
