One of the most expensive houses in the city, now owned by the Peabody Essex Museum in Salem.

We owe it to the architect Samuel mcintre. At the time of its construction (1805), the realization of this house is one of the most expensive of the city. Today, the house is owned by the Peabody Essex Museum. Like many historic buildings in Salem, it has a reputation for being haunted, and for cause: Captain Joseph White was assassinated between his walls in 1830. This murder by Richard Crowninshield and his trial will inspire famous authors such as Edgar Allan Poe and Nathaniel Hawthorne.
