John Hays Hammond Jr. started his own company in 1926 and decided to build a medieval castle in the city of Gloucester. This castle, which was the residence of the master of the place, now houses his collection of ancient and medieval works. An inventor by profession, Hammond actively participated in the creation of the remote control, among several hundred other inventions. His castle served not only as his home but also as a laboratory for his research. In 2011, the building was completely renovated.
