RICHARD SPARROW HOUSE
Plymouth's oldest house now serves as a museum and gallery displaying handcrafted pieces and jewelry
This is the oldest house in Plymouth still standing. It is estimated that it was built in the 1640s by Richard Sparrow, who arrived in Plymouth with his wife and daughter in 1636. When the Sparrow family left Plymouth in 1653, the house was sold to one George Bonum. This historic building now serves as a museum and gallery, displaying crafts and jewellery. The museum part consists of a single, unrenovated room used as a dining room, where everything appears as it did in the 17th century.
