THE HISTORIC MARINER'S HOME
Oldest building in the New Bedford Whaling National Historical Park, served as a boarding house for sailors from other cities
This building is the oldest in New Bedford Whaling National Historical Park. The house was built in 1787 for William Rotch Jr. It also served as a boarding house for sailors from other towns who had just disembarked in New Bedford Harbour. The Whaling Museum sometimes holds exhibits on the first floor of the Mariner's Home. These exhibitions provide an opportunity to learn more about the history of the house and to become familiar with the New Bedford of the time.
