This museum brings together 35,000 works from all over the world. The "Early American Paintings" department presents figurative paintings from 1671 to 1829 and makes it possible to perceive the birth of the American nation through the eyes of the painters of the time on the daily life of the anonymous and the notables. The museum also has one of the largest collections of medieval weapons and armor in the world. It contains the swords of medieval and Renaissance Europe, the arms of feudal Japan, and objects from Greece and ancient Rome.
