MELVILLE TRAIL
Tour consisting of a dozen points of interest in the Arrowhead area, his home in Pittsfield, the Hancock Shaker Village
Herman Melville drew his inspiration from the landscapes of the Berkshires, where he lived between 1850 and 1863. It is possible to follow in the footsteps of the author of Moby Dick by following the Melville Trail, a circuit made up of a dozen points of interest in the region: Arrowhead, his home in Pittsfield, the Hancock Shaker Village where he often went, the Berkshire Athenaeum where you can discover his correspondence, but also Monument Mountain, which inspired him to write his novel after a picnic with the writer Nathaniel Hawthorne.
