Vermont company using marble in the construction of many famous buildings in Rutland

Vermont has a long tradition of marble quarrying and carving. In this workshop, we'll show you how this fragile stone is worked, whether it comes from Vermont or other parts of the world. The Vermont Marble Company was founded in 1880 by a certain Redfield Proctor, after whom the town was named! Before it closed, marble was extracted in several towns in the region, including Proctor. The company's marble was used in the construction of many famous buildings, including the Supreme Court.
