VERMONT STATE HOUSE
The most important Greek-Classical building in Montpelier, home of the Vermont General Assembly
Leaning against a wooded hill, the capitol of the State of Vermont is particularly impressive. It is undoubtedly at its most majestic in the fall, when its golden dome matches the foliage and the white of its facade offers a striking contrast with the autumn colours. Built at the beginning of the 19th century, this Greco-Classical style building houses the headquarters of the Vermont General Assembly. Built in 1857, it is the third capitol building to stand here, the first having been built in 1808.
