Although the city can be easily visited on foot, there are buses and trams that criss-cross the city from Kennedy Plaza, the nerve centre of Providence. They are operated by the city's public transport system, Rhode Island Public Transportation (RIPTA). Providence has no subway lines. While taking the bus is not dangerous, it is important to be vigilant as buses are not always well frequented.
