ISAAC BELL HOUSE
Newport home featuring a very fashionable style of Victorian and American Colonial architecture
With its distinctive wood shingles, this home is one of the finest examples of the Shingle architectural style, originally from New England. It is a blend of the style that was very popular in Great Britain under Queen Anne, derived from Victorian architecture, and American colonial architecture. It was built in 1883 under Isaac Bell Jr. a wealthy cotton broker and investor. The architectural firm that designed the house, McKim, Mead and White, also designed Penn Station in New York.
