KINGSCOTE
Impressive neo-gothic architectural style house with an amazing collection of Asian furniture and objects
Kingscote is one of the first resort cottages for billionaires completed in 1841. The impressive mansion is in Gothic Revival architectural style. In 1864, the manor passed into the hands of William Henry King, a wealthy merchant who then bequeathed it to his children. Today the house houses an astonishing collection of furniture and objects from Asia. The dining room, renovated in the 1880s by King, who hired the New York firm McKim, Mead and White, combines American colonial style with Asian-inspired elements.
