CHEPSTOW
Italianate style home in Newport still furnished as it was when the Morris-Gallatin family occupied it.
An Italian-style residence built in 1860 for the Schermerhorn family, who used it as a summer residence. The architect George Champlin Mason, a native of Newport, designed it. Chepstow was later sold to Emily Morris-Gallatin, and the house remained in the family until it was donated to the Preservation Society in 1986. Today, it is still furnished as it was when the Morris-Gallatin family occupied it. The Garden Room, designed by architect John Grovesnor, was added to the house in 1979.
