ROSECLIFF
Newport mansion, where some scenes of the movies "The Gatsby the Magnificent" and "Amistat" were shot
Theresa Fait Oelrichs, the mistress of the house and wealthy heiress of an Irish businessman with mines in Nevada, found the original home too modest. She had Rosecliff built by the architect Stanford White on the model of the Grand Trianon at Versailles. Throughout the 20th century, the mansion was home to the splendors of the time, and Theresa was considered one of Newport's most important hostesses. It was at Rosecliff that some scenes from the films Gatsby the Magnificent (1974) and Amistad (1997) were filmed.
