NEWPORT ART MUSEUM
Newport's American Architectural Style Museum of Art, with a gallery, featuring a collection of works by artists
The Newport Museum of Art presents a collection of works by artists from Rhode Island as well as from all over New England. One of the museum's galleries is notable for the building that houses it, the John N. A. Griswold House. To us Europeans, it is reminiscent of the half-timbered houses found in some of our regions, but it is actually a typical American architectural style that was founded in the late 19th century, the Stick Style. This building dates from 1864 and is one of the earliest examples of this architecture.
