Porto's biggest popular festival, in honor of Saint John. Hammering on the head, dancing, sardines...
It's Porto's biggest popular festival, in homage to Saint John, which takes place at the time of the summer solstice. Thousands of people take to the streets to beat their heads with hammers (dummies, of course), meet up, have fun, watch the fireworks, eat special dishes, mainly grilled sardines. All the while taking an active part in the popular games. It's a great party, and it doesn't end until sunrise. Luckily, June 24 is a public holiday!
