30 km northwest of Djelfa, along the N1, lies a geological curiosity: the Ain Maabad salt rock. This is one of only three salt mountains in Algeria. At a height of 105 m, it is composed of a mixture of salt and clay and is devoid of any vegetation. Its aridity gives the landscape an almost lunar appearance, and from its heights, a beautiful panorama of the Djelfa plateau awaits hikers. At the foot of the mountain is a drinking water spring where the inhabitants of the surrounding villages draw their supplies.
