SCHLOSS BERG
Neo-Gothic castle once home to King Ludwig II of Bavaria, then Empress Sissi and finally the Wittelsbachs.
To the east of Lake Starnberg, the castle was built by the Bavarian Elector Ferdinand Maria in 1676. It was restored by Maximilian II in neo-Gothic style and later became the summer residence of his son King Ludwig II of Bavaria. It was also here that he spent the last days of his life, before disappearing in circumstances that have never been clarified. Sissi, the Empress, also stayed here regularly during her youth. The Wittelsbach family still owns the place and its gardens
