CHURCH OF ST. MARTIN (MARTINSKIRCHE)
Austria's oldest surviving church, with a reproduction of the Volto Santo fresco and Bauhaus stained-glass windows.
It is the oldest surviving church in Austria. During its restoration in 1947, a reproduction of the famous Volto Santo fresco was discovered, the original of which is in Lucca, Italy. The fresco dates from the early 15th century. This depiction of Christ evokes the legend of the itinerant musician who devoted himself to Jesus until his death. Stones with Roman inscriptions can also be seen. Admire the Bauhaus-style stained-glass windows by Josef Raukamp.
