DIAVOLO LAYING
The Devil's Bridge, or Ponte della Maddalena, dates back to the 11th century and was rebuilt in the 14th century. Overlooking the Serchio, it is located on the ancient via Francigena. Legend has it that the mason, having accumulated a delay in its realization, invoked the devil by proposing to give him the soul of the first living being who would pass on the bridge, by means of which he would ensure the finalization of the work in one night. Once the bridge was finished, the mason finally sent a pig across his bridge first so that the devil would not take a human soul.
