Majestic medieval fortress in San Romano in Garfagnana, open to the public.
A strategic point overlooking the valley at 600 meters above sea level, this remarkable medieval fortress was commissioned by the Gherardinghi family to keep their lands under control. Later transformed into a prison, it is now open all year round to visitors and romantics who come here to watch the magnificent sunset.
The Archeopark offers a reconstruction of past life in the fortress in the form of a living museum and guided tours (extra charge). The rooms have been refurbished as they were at the end of the 13th century.
