HIGHFIELD HISTORIC SITE
This historic site in Stanley is a stunning example of early colonial architecture from the Regency period
Perched high above Stanley on a windy promontory, the Highfield Historic Site represents a stunning example of early colonial architecture from the Regency period (1811-1820). From the farmhouse's large French windows, visitors are treated to spectacular views of the rugged coastline and Bass Strait beyond. Construction by convicts began in 1826 under the watchful eye of Edward Curr, chief agent of the Van Diemen's Land Company. One can walk through the old farmhouse, outbuildings and surrounding gardens.
