DAMNOEN SADUAK FLOATING MARKET
This floating market in Damnoen saduak is a popular tourist attraction, distinguished by its beauty.
This floating market has been a tourist attraction since 1967. Moved in 1984 to its present location, it is a popular excursion from Bangkok. It is advisable to arrive as early as possible to enjoy the beauty of the market before the place is invaded by the tourist coaches that have arrived en masse and that will inevitably parasitize the place and the photos! The market is rather expensive because it is touristic, and it is not here that you will do good business, but you never know!
Completed during the reign of Rama V, the Damnoen Saduak Canal was dug to link the Mae Klong River to other waterways to encourage the development of trade and transport. Arriving on site, one can admire the ballet of the canoes on the canals, mainly played by Thai people in traditional costume. It's a real parade of colours and scents, and a must for photography lovers. The vendors on their boats are overloaded with local products, especially food: vegetables, spices, fruit, home-made products; the canoes come and go on the canals, becoming lighter and lighter as sales increase. At midday, the atmosphere changes; this is the time when the tourists arrive en masse. It's really becoming a total bottleneck both on the banks and on the water; it's crowded, it's noisy; in short, it's time for you to run away if you can.
