THEODORE ROOSEVELT ISLAND
Both natural park and memorial dedicated to former US President Theodore Roosevelt, this island is located on the Potomac River between Arlington and Washington D.C. Briefly inhabited by a tribe of Amerindians in the late seventeenth century, it was acquired in 1724 by George Mason, rich grower. whose son became a personality of the American Revolution and then appeared at the Washington Gas Light Company between 1913 and 1931. She was then bought by the Theodore Roosevelt Memorial Association, and the memorial was devoted in 1967. During your discovery of the island, you will surely see the imposing statue (5 m) of Roosevelt built at its center. The island has three small hiking trails. The longest, not more than 1.2 km, makes it possible to travel in length. Note that cars and bicycles are prohibited on the island, you need to park at the entrance and walk on foot the bridge connecting it to Arlington.
