CATTEDRALE DI ALESSANDRIA
Cathedral with chapels displaying several remarkable paintings and statues.
Built in 1810 to replace the old Duomo demolished by Napoleonic forces, the cathedral of Alessandria is a fine example of neoclassical architecture. The bell tower was completed in 1922. Behind the high altar (from 1954, as well as the five stained glass windows in the choir), one can admire the carved wooden stalls and the painting by Callisto da Lodi that represents St. Peter, St. Paul and St. John the Baptist (1546). Several remarkable paintings and statues can be seen in the chapels.
