CITTADELLA DI ALESSANDRIA
Citadel with more than 1,500 pieces from 1860 to 1946.
A beautiful example of military architecture. Its star-shaped plan was designed by the architect Ignazio Bertola. It was here in 1821 that the first tricolor flag was raised in the colors of Italy, and during the wars of independence the first patriots of the Italian Risorgimento were imprisoned and killed. The interior of the citadel houses the Museum of the Uniforms of the Italian Army, with more than 1,500 items (uniforms, weapons, paintings, photographs...) from 1860 to 1946.
