COMPLESSO DI SAN PIETRO IN CONSAVIA
Unique complex gathering a Romanesque rotunda, a Renaissance chapel and a 15th century cloister.
This unique complex features a Romanesque rotunda, a Renaissance chapel and a 15th-century cloister housing the Archaeological Museum. From the 12th century to 1798, the site was the headquarters of the Knights of the Order of Jerusalem. In the 14th century, it became the seat of the Grand Priory of Lombardy. The building, commissioned by Landolfo di Vergiate, Bishop of Asti, on his return from the Crusades, is based on the plans of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem. Restoration work has now begun.
