BASILICA DI SANT'ANDREA
Basilica with Romanesque and Gothic styles enjoying a renewed interest from a tourist point of view.
The first stone of this basilica was laid in 1219. King Henry III of England financed the work in exchange for the services rendered by the Piedmontese prelate in his accession to the throne. The apostolic legate had indeed eliminated the opponents of Henry III, including the future king of France Louis VIII who claimed the crown of England. The style mixes Romanesque and Gothic influences. On the façade, Lombard and central Italian, Norman and Provençal architectural motifs. The apse has a wooden choir decorated with figurative marquetry.
