BATTISTERO DI BIELLA
Building in the lower town with an interesting bas-relief from the Roman period above the portal.
One of Piedmont's most important Romanesque buildings, located in the lower town, sandwiched between several buildings in a beautiful square. It is logically dedicated to St. John the Baptist. Built from the 9th century onwards, the simplicity of its architecture and building materials (small stones and bricks) do not detract from its interest - on the contrary. Above the portal is an interesting Roman bas-relief, probably depicting Hercules with Love, salvaged from the cemetery that once occupied this space.
