THE BLUE HOUSE
The house became a school, then a prayer room and finally a library with over 3,000 volumes on Jewish history.
Das blaue Haus, the Blue House, is one of these places of concrete memory. Built in 1691, it was converted into a Jewish school in 1829, taking in pupils until 1876. After the destruction of the synagogue in November 1938, the persecuted community set up a prayer room. With the help of Jewish families around the world, a formidable research effort has been undertaken. With a library of over 3,000 volumes, the Maison Bleue is a place of culture and remembrance of the history of the Jews of the Upper Rhine.
