CASTELLO DI MESOLA
Mesola Castle, an imposing fortified complex built in 1578
Mesola Castle is an imposing fortified complex, built in 1578 by order of Alfonso II d'Este, the last Duke of Ferrara before the family moved to Modena. It hosted the court on the occasion of the great hunting drives in the forest of Mesola and was easily reachable by going up the Po from Ferrara. The square plan building has four imposing crenellated corner towers. Some rooms have kept their fresco decorations. The castle houses the Museo del Bosco e del Cervo della Mesola (Mesola Wood and Deer Museum).
