Architect Julia Morgan is one of the symbols of Californian success. Born in 1872, she was the first woman to graduate from the Beaux-Arts in Paris. Between 1919 and 1947, she undertook the construction of Hearst Castle, commissioned by William Randolph Hearst. The mansion boasts 56 bedrooms, 61 bathrooms, 19 salons and 51 hectares of gardens with tennis courts and swimming pools. Highlights include two Spanish-style towers, a Greco-Roman temple façade, French-style fireplaces and a Gothic apartment.
