CIRCUS (CIRCULATION)
This imposing crown-shaped building, built in 1981 and intended for circus performances, will sooner or later attract your attention. The construction work was supervised by the architects S. Șoihet and A. Kirilenko, the engineers T. Goriunova and M. Șein, A. Parsin, M. Postolache and the marble mason A. Startev. This circus has a beautiful circular hall with 1,900 seats and a central arena with a diameter of 13 m, its dome is removable. A sculpture depicting clowns and circus performers overlooks the main entrance. In Soviet times, there were 14 performances and 57 concerts a year. Almost all Moldovans went there with their parents when they were young, and all remember the circus with nostalgia. Due to lack of funds to maintain it, the circus was closed in 2004 and in 2007 it was transformed into a state-owned enterprise with the majority of shares held by the Ministry of Culture. After a long ten-year hiatus, activities resumed in 2014 with the opening of a small circus with an arena measuring 9.51 m in diameter and a capacity of 308 spectators. The programme is varied and every month the poster is renewed. You can see beautiful shows of magicians, dance for the end of year festivities, shows of acrobats, acrobats, of course clowns and even figure skating on ice! The small circus is equipped with modern lighting, sound and video equipment.
