This monument erected in 1982 near the Pedagogical University of Chișinău is dedicated to the pedagogue and great classical writer of Romanian literature, Ion Creangă (1837-1889). The monument was made by the sculptor V. Cuznețov and the architect V. Cudinov. Ion Creangă worked as a deacon and then as a teacher, before divorcing and embarking on a literary career. He wrote children's classics and works inspired by peasant folklore. In 1948, he was posthumously elected member of the Romanian Academy.
