EXHIBITION CENTRE CONSTANTIN BRĂNCUŞI
It is the city's most important centre for artistic promotion, founded in 1989 and the stronghold of the Union of Plastic Artists. The centre is named in honour of Constantine Brâncuși (1876-1957), the famous Romanian sculptor whose works were modern in style but nevertheless inspired by Romanian traditions. The main exhibition room is large and the permanent exhibition features paintings, graphic arts, sculptures, photographs and digital art. The periods and styles of the exhibited works are very varied: still lifes by Serghei Galben, Arcadia Ghețu and Nina Șibaev, landscapes painted by Victor Crețu, Galina Vieru, Liviu Hâncu or Mihai Țăruș... It is interesting to note that one of the greatest Moldavian painters, Auguste Baillayre (1879-1961), was French and founded the National Museum of Fine Arts of Chișinău with the sculptor Alexandru Plămădeală. Temporary exhibitions lasting two to three weeks follow one another throughout the year in the large and small rooms, featuring contemporary artists, paintings and sculptures from the 19th century to the present day. The year is also marked by various events, with group exhibitions, a Spring Fair, the Moldavian Artists' Fair, vernissages and art competitions with Romanian painters and sculptors.
Two rooms exhibit works for sale. All sales are in cash.
