MUZEUL DE ISTORIE A ORAŞULUI ORAŞULUI
Here is another monument of architecture and art of national importance dating from the end of the 19th century following a Byzantine style and designed by architect A. Bernardazzi in 1892. Originally, it was the town's water tower, and the upper level was built of wood, but later, then damaged by an earthquake, it was rebuilt in stone between 1980 and 1983. The height of the tower under the roof is 22 m and the walls, which vary in thickness from 2 m to 0.60 m, are made of local white stone with rows of red bricks in between. The tower has retained the interior metal spiral staircase that serves the upper floors, where the old water tank was located. At the top of the tower there is a magnificent view of the city. The plan is elongated octagonal, a geometrical form dear to Bernardazzi, which vertically divides the building into six parts: the plinth, three levels separated by cornices, projecting eaves and the volume of the upper room. The bottom of the tower is visually reinforced by a corner grip reminiscent of medieval towers. The top floor serves as a belvedere over the whole of the White City, whose history is recounted by means of maps, everyday objects and photos defining its evolution over the years. The interior is well maintained and has been renovated. The room on the penthouse floor is beautiful, especially its parquet flooring. Allow 45 minutes for the visit.
