VALEA TRANDAFIRILOR PARK
Chișinău is a city bathed in greenery, so even the city centre has its park. Situated in the south-east of the city, it used to contain fields for growing roses, which gave it its name. In 1968, it was transformed into a park of 145 ha and inaugurated in 1969. In Soviet times, it was called the Lenin City Park of Culture and Rest. In the 1980s the park included a cinema, a 1,000 seat grandstand and a go-kart track. In the central part of the park, waterfalls and three large lakes were created, which were popular with Moldovans in the summer months. Inside the park there are refreshment stands and restaurants, a beach (with sand!), children's playgrounds and areas for sports. In the summer, you can play tennis or even skateboard. In spring and summer, especially at weekends or on public holidays, couples, groups of friends or families like to come here for a walk, a drink or a meal. It is also possible to rent a boat or a pedal boat and go sailing on the lake, between ducks and swans. It is a suitable place for cycling or running. In spring and summer it is a lively and popular place but where it is easy to find a quiet place. In autumn, the park is decorated in flamboyant colours and takes on a romantic look. Next to the park, near Trandafirilor Street, you can see a memorial dedicated to the victims of the Chernobyl nuclear disaster.
