ETHNOGRAPHIC MUSEUM
The ethnographic museum has been open since 1979. It is located in a beautiful building in the neo-Romanian style, recognizable by its small tower and dating from the inter-war period. The museum is surrounded by a small garden with a hedge and some trees in the public park of the town. The place is charming. To the north of the park is the house of culture with typical Soviet architecture. The seven rooms present a rich exhibition. More than 12,000 items are catalogued and they also constitute a real working support for archaeologists, historians and scientists. There are ceramics, vases, carpets, embroidery, looms, tools, folk crafts, traditional costumes, medals, ancient coins... Exhibitions and events often take place there, such as the International Museum Day or the commemoration of the soldiers from Florești killed during the 1979-1989 Afghanistan war.
Two people welcome you to the museum, but it is best to call beforehand to make sure they are present and take advantage of their knowledge, especially the director Elidia Murafa. One of them speaks excellent French! During the guided tour, you will be given many explanations about the exhibits: their origin, their past use, their manufacture... This museum, like the others in the country, contributes to preserving the memory of Moldavian folk traditions.
