BISERICA SFÂNTUL IERARH NICOLAE
Located 109 km from the capital, on the bank of the river Răut, the village of Domulgeni was first mentioned in documents from 1611. Surrounded by small hills and greenery, the village stands out for its pretty, colourful traditional houses. The church of Saint-Hiérarque-Nicolas was built in wood in 1812-1813 and then in stone in 1862. Its architecture is classical. It is recognizable by its gray color and its silver roof that comes out of a bunch of trees. It is located a hundred meters from the river. Its entrance is overhung by a pointed bell tower and above the nave rises a bulbous bell tower. Three turrets are erected above the choir. The interior has been renovated but there are very few frescoes. Many icons can be seen there. The floor is covered with large carpets. The iconostasis separating the altar from the rest of the church is made of wood, with icons of Christ, the Virgin Mary and various saints, including Saint Nicholas of Myra, to whom the building is dedicated. He is an important saint, celebrated here on 22 May and 6 December by the Catholics.
Nearby you can visit the village museum, which is located in a charming little traditional blue house. Domulgeni is also known for its feast of Duminica Mare which is held at the time of Pentecost, the last Sunday in May. In the village there is also a monument dedicated to the soldiers who fell in the Second World War.
