VILLAGE TROGLODYTE

Sometimes writes Țâra, not far from Florești, this small village dates back more than one hundred and fifty years and is often absent from the map. There is no transport, you have to take a taxi from Florești or walk 3 km from Rogojeni. It is an unusual place because, originally, this village is made up of houses dug into the rock, some of them more than two or three centuries ago, to protect themselves from Tatar and Ottoman invasions. At the entrance to the village, a row of acacias gives a glimpse of the first cave dwelling. They vary in size; one of the largest, dating back more than a century, includes a room, a cellar, and a forge that is no longer functional. The master of this house considers that he has a real treasure and he plans to make it viable and perhaps turn it into a tourist accommodation when... he has enough money. Today, some of them are still inhabited, but most of them are used as cellars or second homes during very harsh winters or hot periods. The extracted stone was used as material for the construction of the façade and the rest was used to build ovens, various utensils, grinding stones, etc. Although at present these houses are in a minority in the village of Țâra, these habitable caves evoke in an unprecedented way the relationship between man, nature and history. In winter, when the chimneys smoke, as the ducts are small and thus hidden, it seems that it is the whole hill that smokes
