IVANCEA PARK

Ivancea Park surrounds the former residence of Karabet Balioz (1808-1873) which became the Museum of Popular Crafts in 1984. This landscaped park of 7 ha is designed to signify the "rustic" style of the Moldavian landscape. Originally, its owner wanted to combine forest fruit trees with a large number of exotic species. Even if his successors and heirs dropped this project, there are still more than 40 exotic species, including the only ginkgo tree in Moldova. There are also many conifers, among the highest pine trees in the country. It was thanks to one of Karabet Balioz's sons, Ivan Balioz, that the garden took on its successful appearance in 1880, with its irregular and asymmetrical layout, fountains and artificial hills enlivening the space. At that time, the park will be equipped with a water tower, built on three levels with an open-air terrace. It is a place that exudes a bewitching atmosphere, definitely romantic. Unfortunately, this museum-park complex has been closed for years and is waiting for funds to complete its restoration and reopen its doors to the public.
It is possible to explore the grounds of the manor house and its outbuildings which included, in addition to the water tower, a barn, a cellar and a forge. Some curious people or lovers of "urbex" ("urban exploration") have already visited the places whose state of neglect creates a very special atmosphere. The manor house itself is rather well preserved and can be noticed by its beautiful sky blue and white colour.
